Home – That Insignificant Ball of Rock

So we’re really just insignificant specks on a massive ball of rock that is orbiting around an average sized, yellow star, which is hurtling through Space at a speed of about 200 km/s, going once around the Milky Way every 250 million years –  not to mention that all the galaxies (apart from those in our local neighbourhood) are flying away from each other, some even faster than the speed of light! Which all seems quite overwhelming and bizarre.

But what about our home, the Earth? How much do we really know about it? Not a lot apparently.

Introducing ‘Kurzgesagt – In A Nutshell‘. This awesome YouTube Channel has been around since 2013 and regularly produces great high quality explanations of some really crazy topics. Since some of the stuff they do can be quite spacey and far out, we thought we’d introduce one of their more grounded videos (duh doon dush!).

You’ll find here some of the more interesting facts about the Earth, the Moon and the formation of the Solar System. One of the things that really blew me away was the sense of scale. You really get to see just how small we are in comparison to all the going-ons around us! And then of course, there’s the brief mention of Outer Space – enough to make any Astrophysicist excited!

We hope you really enjoy it. If you want to see more, go subscribe to their YouTube channel, or go have a look at their website. They tend to produce roughly one video every month and its really worth digging through their archives to see what you’ve missed out on!
